A long-standing tenant in the arcade at York Place, The GamePad has seen significant changes in trading conditions in recent years. The decline of York Place, loss of neighbouring tenants, increased high street and online competition and a faltering economy all contributed to the business becoming non-profitable.
With support from the landlord and a clear vision of how recent changes could transform The GamePad's position, the owner has actively engaged in the programme of events now being delivered at York Place. By developing gaming events and activities in conjunction with the YMCA's 'Place to Be' unit, he is attracting a new community of gamers to both game and spend (time and money) at York Place. It is this type of resourcefulness and willingness to embrace innovation that fuels the place-based regeneration model being developed at York Place.
